Diploma Student Information

We welcome new diploma students from around the world throughout the year.

Graduation Requirements

Any one of any age who completes graduation requirements can earn the University of Nebraska High School accredited diploma in the time frame of their choice.

Full Time Status

It is recommended, but not required, that students pursuing a UNHS diploma enroll in five courses per semester to graduate in a timely manner. All UNHS diploma students who are Nebraska residents and under the age of 18 must be enrolled in five UNHS semester-length courses continuously during the school year and showing progress in those courses to comply with the State of Nebraska Compulsory Attendance Law.

Students must successfully complete State of Nebraska diploma requirements including at least five courses with UNHS to be eligible for our diploma. Diploma-bound students of UNHS should use the school code 281316 on all entrance examinations, college applications, and registration with the NCAA.

Honor Roll

Students earning outstanding academic achievement are recognized and listed on the UNHS honor roll, which is published twice a year. To qualify, students must complete five or more courses earning a grade of A or B in all courses during the designated time period. Time periods run August 1 through January 31 and February 1 through July 31.

Graduation Ceremony

The University of Nebraska High School celebrates its graduates each year with a commencement ceremony on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. However, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, UNHS decided in the interest of safety to not host an on-site graduation ceremony in 2020, 2021, and 2022. Instead, we recognized and celebrated our graduates during a virtual (online) event held in July. In 2023 UNHS returned to an on-campus graduation ceremony in June, and in 2024 and 2025 UNHS celebrated an on-campus ceremony in July.

Academic Advisers

The UNHS Academic Advising Team works with students, parents, and schools to provide support while students earn their high school diplomas and transition into college.

From course selection and strategies for academic success to NCAA initial eligibility requirements and preparing for college, the UNHS Academic Advising Team is a tremendous resource for students.

Diploma students should work with the UNHS Academic Advising Team to design the appropriate program of study for their needs.
