In keeping with current Social Distancing guidelines to help slow the spread of COVID-19, University of Nebraska High School staff will work remotely for a period of time. For this reason, we suggest that the current, best contact with UNHS is through email:
Our goal is to do our part to keep communities healthy through this challenging period while we serve students and schools. Our students and teachers will continue to work as they do through our system. We will follow recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services as they are issued, and update our communication with you as necessary.
We do not anticipate that our remote work structure will significantly impact our service. Thank you for your understanding. UNHS staff remain committed to our students and their educational progress.
How UNHS Can Help During the COVID-19 Pandemic
In this time when so many families are doing their part to keep communities healthy through Social Distancing and remaining at home, the University of Nebraska High School is offering 10 courses free through July 31, 2020. Nine of the courses are for credit and one is a noncredit module on citizenship.
UNHS allows students to enroll any day of the year and work at their own pace. Students can complete a course in as little as five weeks from the first submitted assignment, or may take as long as a year. These courses are entry-level high school curriculum – great for review, credit recovery, and are suitable for middle school students ready for a challenge. These courses lead students through a well-designed, sequenced instruction with embedded explanations and checks for understanding and assessment. Each course provides one semester of credit.

Questions & Answers:
How are these tuition-free courses different from other UNHS courses?
Most UNHS courses are facilitated by our high school teachers who guide students through projects with feedback and support. These courses are standalone courses which the student completes independently, making it possible to offer them tuition-free during this period. These are elective credits that could count towards a student's graduation requirement, but do not count towards NCAA eligibility requirements.
Are these courses for credit?
When a course is completed with a passing grade, the student will earn credit with UNHS. UNHS will transfer that credit back to the student's local school when requested to do so by the student. It is up to the student’s local school whether or not to accept this credit as part of their program.
What are these courses like?
Courses are accessed through the UNHS website via a login and password. No special software or technology platform is needed. These courses are self-paced, meaning a student can complete them in as few as 5 weeks, or take up to a full year to complete a course and get the credit. Since all of the courses do have proctored tests, each student will need to have a proctor who will download the test and monitor while the test is taken. In quarantine situations, we would approve a parent as a proctor – something that is normally not allowed. Students learn material independently, do activities to reinforce the learning, and complete evaluations and assessments. When a course is complete, students will receive a completion notice and the course will be transcripted for credit at the University of Nebraska High School.
