UNHS is introducing two new Natural Science courses and announcing updates to nine other courses across five subject areas as of August 1, 2019. Course updates include offering new course versions and textbooks as well as changing course names. In addition, two courses will no longer require a textbook.
Below are highlights of individual course updates.
Earth Science. New NCAA-approved 11th grade course. This course covers geology, climatology, hydrology, and Earth’s oceans. This is a great course option for students who are interested in Earth’s vast resources, and will complement either our Astronomy or Ocean Biology courses to complete an additional year of science requirements for graduation. Available in print or online.
Medical Imaging and Therapeutic Sciences. New 11th grade course. This course was written and developed in collaboration with the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Fundamentals of the most-important clinical medical imaging modalities will be covered in this course. Available only online, this course has no additional textbook, and is primarily assessed on student projects that involve the use of case studies. Prerequisite: One year of biology.
Physics 1 and 2. New version of course and new textbook from a different publisher.
World Geography 1 and 2. New version of course and new textbook from a different publisher.
Business Math 1 and 2. New version of course and no longer requires a textbook.
Career Planning. New name (formerly Career Planning: Learning, Earning and Living Skills), new version of course, and new textbook from a different publisher.
Personal Finance. New name (formerly Personal Finance and Economics) and new textbook from a different publisher.
Effective Speech Communication. New version of course and new textbook.
