UNHS is announcing updates to seven courses across five subject areas as of February 1, 2022. Course updates include new course versions with new or updated textbooks. In addition, a new course titled Introduction to Business Management will be introduced to replace the course Winning in the Workplace. Most course updates also include a change to Teacher Connect activities. These activities will now be graded components that count in a student’s overall course grade.
The courses listed below will also include a new required assignment called “Self-Check Test: Course Introduction.” This assignment, which will be part of the course’s gating and sequencing along with the five-week minimum course completion requirement, is designed to help students better understand the goals and requirements of the course.
Below are highlights of individual course updates.
Introduction to Business Management. New course, recommended for 10th grade, to replace Winning in the Workplace. This course discusses what a business manager does and focuses on the five functions of management. It provides an overview of how a market economy operates and examines different career opportunities in management. In addition, students will learn about the job application process, including searching for a job, writing a résumé, and interviewing. Students will have an opportunity to review the Sixteen Career Clusters for possible career choices. Available in print or online.
Effective Reader Skills. New version of course with a new textbook from a different publisher. Beginning February 1, Effective Reader Skills will be offered as a recommended course for 11th grade designed to prepare students for college-level reading. If you are interested in enrolling in a foundational course for beginning readers after February 1, please reach out to UNHS Customer Service.
Second Year French. New version of course. Teacher Connects and projects will now require students to create audio recordings. Teacher Connects are also each worth 1% of a student’s overall course grade.
Science of Fitness. New version of course. New version of same textbook.
Second Year Spanish. New version of course. Teacher Connects and projects will now require students to create audio recordings. Teacher Connects are also each worth 1% of a student’s overall course grade.
AP U.S. History 1. New version of textbook from the same publisher. Teacher Connects are now each worth 1% of the student’s overall course grade.
AP U.S. History 2. New version of textbook from the same publisher. Teacher Connects are now each worth 1% of the student’s overall course grade.
