UNHS is announcing updates to five courses across four subject areas as of August 1, 2022. Updates include new course versions with new textbooks. In addition, a new course titled Foundations of Reading is being introduced to replace the course Effective Reader Skills, which is now an upper-level course recommended for juniors and seniors. Four of the course updates also include a change to Teacher Connect activities. These activities are now graded components that count in a student’s overall course grade.
Below are highlights of individual course updates.
Foundations of Reading. New course, recommended for 9th grade, to replace Effective Reader Skills. This course helps students become more effective readers by emphasizing strategies that will help improve basic language and literacy skills. Students will study central themes, main ideas, major and minor details, inferences, fact, opinion, context clues and vocabulary. Available in print or online.
Health and Wellness. New version of course with a new textbook from a different publisher.
Anatomy and Physiology. New version of course with a new textbook from a different publisher. Teacher Connects are also each worth 1% of a student’s overall course grade.
American Government: Theories, Policies, and Politics. New version of course. New version of textbook from the same publisher. Teacher Connects are also each worth 1% of a student’s overall course grade.
American Government: National Level. New version of course. New version of textbook from the same publisher. Teacher Connects are also each worth 1% of a student’s overall course grade.
AP® Comparative Government and Politics. New version of course. New version of textbook from the same publisher. Teacher Connects are also each worth 1% of a student’s overall course grade.
