As of Aug. 1, 2025, UNHS is announcing updates to two social studies courses along with the release of three new courses and one new non-credit course. The two updated social studies courses will include materials being available to students in Theorem via the digital course pack provider, Skyepack.

Details of the updated course versions are highlighted below.

World Cultures 1. Physical textbook no longer required. New version of course with course materials now being offered via digital course pack (print format also available). Teacher Connects are now worth 1% each of a student’s overall course grade.

Three new courses are also being released. Two of these courses were developed in response to the passage of the Nebraska Computer Science and Technology Act. This act will require that all students seeking a Nebraska high school diploma take five high school credits in computer science and technology. The Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) has developed content standards for eligible courses to meet. 

More information about these three new courses is provided below. 

Introduction to Patient Care. Thanks to the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), UNHS will offer this course on patient care. It focuses on the knowledge needed to become a nursing assistant, but all students interested in the medical profession can benefit from the skills taught in this course. This course is available online and in print.

Computing Foundations. This course was developed to meet NDE’s Nebraska Computer Science and Technology Content Standards. Students will learn important foundational information about computer science and technology including basic programming skills, digital literacy, and cybersecurity. This course is available online and in print.

Advanced Placement® Computer Science Principles. This course also meets NDE’s Nebraska Computer Science and Technology Content Standards. Students who pursue this course will learn about important topics such as abstraction, how the internet operates, and important skills for computer programming. This course is available online only.

In addition, UNHS is adding a free, non-credit course to help students better understand a technology that is reshaping the world. 

Artificial Intelligence. In this no-cost, non-credit course, students will explore topics related to artificial intelligence (AI). Topics in this course include generative AI, machine learning, AI misinformation, ethical use of AI, and careers related to this technology. This course is available online only.
